family photo sessions

You’d like to get some professional photos taken of your family, but you don’t like traditional studio shots where everyone is posed formally and feeling uncomfortable. You want natural, candid shots of your family that reveal your children’s personalities, and capture real connections. You know those moments when your children are close and snuggling, or giggling and playful, and you wish someone was nearby with a camera? Yes, those.

Authentic connections and moments in family photography

“The entire process was a stress free and relaxed one. Both for myself and importantly for my children. Unlike studio shots, Pam captured the natural light and the candid, unstaged smiles of my children and the wonderful photos are certainly proof of that. They captured exactly what I wanted. I LOVE the photos. ” ~ Kylie Bowen, Hughesdale

authentic, fun & relaxed

I aim for my sessions to be genuinely fun so that I can capture your family’s natural happy. Before your session, I’ll give you a call to chat about your family, with a view to making a connection that will flow through to the session and help everyone to relax. We’ll talk about what your family like to do, where you like to hang out, your children’s personalities, and your general vision for the photos you want to end up with. We’ll also talk about your children’s routine so that we can time the session to coincide with their happiest time of day.

big families

Want to capture your entire extended family? I’ve photographed many extended families, and they are without doubt some of my favourite sessions. I thrive on the energy and excitement that is always present among the family when they all come together, and I use that energy to create authentic, beautiful images. The goal at these sessions is a set of images of each family grouping, including the all important whole family shot, that are consistent in style and ready to be hung side by side. My extended family sessions are relaxed and fun, and I plan according to your family’s needs to ensure we capture every combination requested.

extended family photographer

“The mandate was for a family photograph capturing our family of 16 as a gift to our parents for their golden wedding anniversary. We had a relatively short period of time to contend with the logistics of organising four families, and a few kids to keep from being bored during the photo shoot. What we ended up with was a planning process that was simple, everybody knowing what they needed to know, Pam scouting the perfect location for a large group, a really fun morning that delivered us a set of gorgeous photos and even an exciting sneak peak later the same day!  The end result was exactly what we wanted and we have no hesitation recommending Pam”. ~ Julie Kennedy, Sanctuary Lakes

I photograph newborns, older babies, children, families and extended families (multiple family groups).

Sessions take place at an outdoor location or in your own home, using predominantly natural light. If you have a special place you’d like it to take place, please let me know, otherwise I’m happy to make suggestions.

A gallery with a minimum of 30 images to choose from will be produced, and you can choose your favourites to be included in any one of four packages starting from $395.

“A sincere thank you for the beautiful memories you created for our family that I will long cherish as my babies grow older.  I am so pleased with the final product and love the little moments that you captured. Your ability to make the kids and adults alike feel at ease is a true gift and the results speak volumes.   “Pam put us at ease straight away, and she had all the tricks to get the images she wanted.  We are extremely happy with our pictures and our only problem was deciding which ones to print and hang as they were all so nice!”  ~ Natalie O’Brien, Williamstown

frequently asked questions

Q. Where do sessions take place?

A. I shoot on location either in or around your own home or at outdoor locations within Melbourne.  I’m happy to suggest a location but if you have a favourite hang out please let me know so we can chat about it.

Newborn sessions are always shot in your own home, and are shot with a lifestyle approach.

Q. I don’t like formally posed studio style photography and I want photos of my children looking like themselves.

I approach my sessions in a way that ensures I capture personality and authentic connections between family members and I have ways of bringing this out of you naturally. I will never pose you in awkward and uncomfortable ways that you wouldn’t sit normally with your family, and I will NEVER tell you to “say cheese”!

Q. I’m worried my children will be difficult to photograph.

A. I make sure my sessions are relaxed and fun because my aim is to capture your family’s natural happy, and I can’t do that if they’re not enjoying themselves. All my clients report back that my session was a lot more fun than they expected.

Q. What if the weather is bad on the day?

I’m flexible, if it’s raining and we’re shooting outdoors we’ll reschedule. We might even play it by ear and wait out the rain, meeting later in the day assuming it suits us all. The bottom line is my goal is to get beautiful photos taken in beautiful light and if we need to make a change in order to achieve that, I’ll do whatever it takes.

Q. I want my extended family to be photographed but I’m worried about how I’ll manage the logistics of organising such a large group?

 A. I know how hard these sessions are to organise from your end. So I always give my extended families a good number of dates, then I keep all those dates free whilst you work it out.

 Q. Can I bring my pet?

 A. Pets are family too, if you want to bring your beloved furbaby, feel free… just let me know when you’re booking that you’d like to do this.

Q. I have no idea what to dress every one in for a photo session.

This is a question every single client asks me…what to wear? When you book a session I’ll send you an e-book I wrote to help you with this dilemma.

Q. How long does a session take?

Your session will run for as long as it takes me to produce a full gallery for you (minimum 30 images). As a guide, sessions for small families tend to run from 30 to 60 minutes; 45 to 90 minutes for large extended families (depending on the number of groupings you want); and approximately 90 minutes to 3 hours for newborn sessions (these sessions take longer as time is generally needed to stop for feeds, changes and settling).

Q. What happens after the session?

Allow up to 2 weeks for editing of your images, after which I’ll upload your final images to a password protected online gallery for you to make your decisions. I’m happy to chat to you if you need help choosing photos and products.

“I just wanted to say thank you for the amazing job you did on our photo shoot. Having a two year old to chase after is so difficult and you managed to capture the moments we’d hoped for with Benjamin. I love your work, I love your style which is why I would recommend you to everyone we know.  I am very proud to say we now have some gorgeous photos of my two beautiful girls and my darling grandson!” ~ Wendy Roscoe
